Data-driven decision reduce cost and uncover fraud at USCG

Why:  In 2012 and 2013, the relocation of the US Coast Guard’s (USCG) headquarters provided an opportunity to revisit how support services including IT, Acquisition, Facility, and Personnel are provided in the new operating environment to support customer performance expectations in a harsh budget climate.

What:  Technical Assent successfully employed Lean methods as part of several assessments to baseline, compare, and scale service levels from the old location to the new, state of the art campus.  In each instance, Technical Assent assisted the USCG in understanding mission and IT requirements, desired service levels, and translated these issues into financial terms that could support alternatives analysis and budget decisions.  Technical Assent’s assessments assisted USCG leaders in making critical business decisions that ultimately improved the delivery of services and helped reduce the overall costs for delivery.  These included recommendations that helped consolidate infrastructure, contracts, and services yielding over $1 million in cost reductions in its first year.
